Information Sheet on Fitting a Hot Water Cylinder

There is a
lot of technical info. relevant to cylinders. Not only do they come in 20 odd different sizes, but the metal they are made from comes in different thicknesses and can be copper or stainless steel. They can be direct, indirect, vented or unvented, and can cost from £120 to £2000!
There is no way I’m going to start educating you in the differences. I’m assuming here that you don’t want to redesign the
way your hot water is delivered but simply want a new cylinder because yours needs changing.

It might be worth getting a
plumber to explain the differences to you. If you are changing the cylinder anyway, now is the time to at least consider the alternatives!

What you must do with your new cylinder is get one that is large enough for your requirements and has as much insulation as possible. Standard copper ones come with 25mm of spray foam insulation, we don’t think that’s enough!
