Cost to Fit an Alarm System

Job
Description
Labour
1This isn’t going to happen…but let’s assume an alarm company’s employee is fitting a wireless system (on the fly) in a three bed semi. This comprises an external siren, a control unit, 6 PIR’s, a panic button and a remote control key. He would fit it all in a day, and the materials would come to about £325
£500

“Labour” at £175 a day (tradesman) £100 (labourer), includes incidental fixings etc. and tipping charges. “Materials” if mentioned, are larger things (a boiler) and stuff only you can choose (tiles etc).  Also VAT must be added all round.

Information on Fitting Burglar Alarms

Specialist companies fit alarms. We’re just builders, we have no more idea how much they charge than you do. We know what they pay their blokes of course but what about the profit margin? What about maintenance? What about organising external calls to the police etc. The only way to find the cost is to get a few of them round to quote for the job, each house is different they say, they won’t give a general price.

Most systems nowadays are wireless. A lot of the old stuff is no longer fitted (mat, door & window sensors). Passive infrared sensors (PIR’s) do all the detecting. They sit up in a ceiling corner and sense everything that moves). A panic button next to your bed is still very popular though.
