“Labour” at £175 a day (tradesman) £100 (labourer), includes incidental fixings etc. and tipping charges. “Materials” if mentioned, are larger things (a boiler) and stuff only you can choose (tiles etc).  Also VAT must be added all round.

This is probably the simplest electrical job possible and it will take you far longer to choose a dimmer switch than it will for a sparks to fit it. For once we can keep it simple.

Make sure you buy the right kind of switch for your lighting set up though. Do you have low voltage or mains lights? How many do you have? A standard dimmer has a 400 watt maximum so 10 x 50 watt spotlights will be too much for this.

Our advice: Consult the electrician before you buy one! Tell him the style, colour etc and he can pick it up himself.
