“Labour” at £175 a day (tradesman) £100 (labourer), includes incidental fixings etc. and tipping charges. “Materials” if mentioned, are larger things (a boiler) and stuff only you can choose (tiles etc).  Also VAT must be added all round.

As “Del Boy” would say, we have a “Catch 27” situation here. Because if you want to fit a drain cock, you will have to drain down the system to do it! Actually you don’t, that was just me playing with your mind and having serious fun in the process.

You don’t for 2 reasons, one the relevant pipe can be temporarily frozen while the job is done, or far more likely, you are having work done to the system and old Hawkeye the plumber sees you’re minus a drain cock and just fits one for you.

They are best fitted at a downstairs radiator, preferably near the back door in a utility room so that you or a plumber can run a short length of hose from the drain cock into a gully outside when draining down.

Let’s assume you actually get a bloke in specially to do the job. He will charge you for half a day plus the cock.
