Information on Flushing Central Heating Systems
This job fits into the definition of “Preventative Maintenance”. This means that it’s a good idea, but it rarely becomes a reality.
It hardly ever gets done, but old central heating systems should really have their water changed as they get power flushed, about every 5 years. If it doesn’t get done (and it won’t), the consequence will be that eventually, some of your radiators will stop working. This is because the water in the system is full of impurities and it isn’t reaching all of the radiators. The system should be flushed out and filled up again. Then a system inhibitor should be added. This is added to counteract corrosion and the build-up of scale, sludge and bacteria.
The cost involved could cover a weekend in a Dorset Cottage. You choose.

Finding the money to pay for something that isn't actually broken. It's just less efficient.
